Google Shopping ads monitoring: separate feed health from campaign performance

Shopping ads monitoring has two distinct layers: campaign performance and Merchant Center product eligibility. Feed and product issues can remove or limit eligible inventory, while an eligible product can still receive little traffic for campaign reasons.

Monitor eligibility before diagnosing performance

When Shopping traffic drops, first confirm that the expected products are still processed and eligible in Merchant Center. Check for account issues, product disapprovals, expanded affected sets, stale sources, or changed destinations before assuming bids or campaign settings are the cause.

An approved product is not guaranteed impressions, so keep feed health and media performance as separate diagnostic tracks.

Product-data changes that can affect Shopping coverage

Prioritize changes that can alter eligibility or the set of products available to campaigns.

  • New or expanded disapprovals
  • Price or availability mismatches
  • Product removals or expired source data
  • Landing-page failures
  • Identifier and variant problems
  • Shipping or policy-related product limitations

Use a timeline when traffic changes

Compare the time a product issue appeared with source updates and traffic movement. A correlation can prioritize investigation, but it does not prove the feed issue caused every performance change. Campaign budgets, bidding, demand, auction conditions, and measurement changes can move at the same time.

What to alert on

Useful alerts focus on meaningful Merchant-side changes rather than every product row.

  • Account-critical diagnostics
  • New product disapprovals
  • Material expansion in affected products
  • Loss of previously healthy products
  • Repeated sync or authorization failures
  • Recovery of important issue groups

CommerceVigil's monitoring scope

CommerceVigil reads Merchant Center product and issue data, tracks lifecycle changes, and adds supported traffic context where matching is deterministic. It does not manage Google Ads campaigns or claim that a Merchant issue caused a specific revenue change.

Frequently asked questions

No. Merchant product eligibility is one layer; campaign delivery and performance are another.

Yes. Approval means eligibility, not guaranteed auction participation or traffic.

Does CommerceVigil change Google Ads campaigns?

No. It monitors Merchant Center data and does not manage campaign settings.
