Feeds & synchronization
Google Shopping feed monitoring: what to watch
Feed monitoring should connect source freshness with the products Google actually processed. A successful upload does not prove that every offer stayed eligible, accurate, or consistent with its landing page.

Monitor the path from source to processed offer
A product source can be a scheduled file, platform sync, API integration, or another supported method. For each source, track when it updated, whether processing produced errors, which products appeared or disappeared, and what values Merchant Center ultimately processed.
Shopping and retail Performance Max use Merchant product data. Feed problems can therefore affect eligibility for those placements, but resolving data errors does not guarantee campaign performance.
High-value change categories
Focus monitoring on changes that can alter eligibility or customer consistency.
- New, expanded, and resolved product disapprovals
- Price and sale-price divergence
- Availability and inventory lag
- Missing or invalid brand, GTIN, or MPN
- Image and landing-page accessibility problems
- Stale scheduled sources or failed API updates
- Unexpected product or variant removals
Separate source errors from storefront errors
A source may contain the expected value while a cached product page shows something else. Conversely, the store may be correct while an integration keeps submitting old product data. Compare source, processed product, visible page, structured data, and checkout in that order.
Avoid noisy alerting
A useful monitor groups the same issue across products and sends lifecycle-based changes rather than one alert for every offer. It should suppress duplicates, distinguish transient sync failure from an actionable reconnect problem, and keep a complete scheduled reconciliation as a safety net.
CommerceVigil's monitoring boundary
CommerceVigil reads Merchant issues and products, monitors lifecycle and supported push changes, and attaches performance context where matching is deterministic. It does not modify source files, platform catalogs, campaigns, or landing pages.
Frequently asked questions
Is a successful feed fetch enough?
No. Also inspect processing results, processed values, product status, and storefront consistency.
Should every warning trigger an email?
Usually not. Grouping and severity/impact prioritization reduce noise while preserving the issue record.
Does CommerceVigil replace Merchant Center?
No. Merchant Center remains the authoritative source; CommerceVigil adds monitoring and workflow context.
