Google Merchant Center issue
Missing GTIN
Google does not have a GTIN for an offer where one may be expected.

What Google is reporting
GTIN requirements depend on whether the manufacturer assigned one and on the product and destination. A missing-identifier message is not proof that every product needs a barcode.
Why this happens
- The manufacturer GTIN is absent from the product source.
- A variant's GTIN was not mapped to the corresponding offer.
- A custom product was incorrectly classified as having a standard identifier.
These are possibilities, not a confirmed cause for your account.
Does it affect eligibility?
Google says missing or incorrect GTINs may limit visibility. Check the reported destination and product status for the actual impact.
How to diagnose it
- Check the manufacturer's product packaging or authoritative catalog.
- Match the exact variant to its assigned GTIN.
- Review Google's product identifier rules when no GTIN has been assigned.
How to fix it
- Add the correct assigned GTIN to the exact offer when one exists.
- Correct your source mapping so variants do not share the wrong identifier.
- For products without identifiers, submit product data consistent with Google's applicable guidance.
What CommerceVigil checks
CommerceVigil tracks the reported issue and its affected product set. It does not infer a GTIN from a title or guess between variants.
Google’s reported issue remains authoritative. AI explanations are separate from deterministic evidence checks.
