Shopify Merchant Center monitoring
Shopify-to-Merchant monitoring should watch the catalog, Google & YouTube sync, market configuration, theme markup, and product page as one path. A snapshot can diagnose today; ongoing checks reveal what changed afterward.

Map the Shopify-to-Google path
Confirm which Shopify store, market, catalog, and Merchant account the Google & YouTube app connects. Then choose one affected variant and compare its Shopify product/variant ID, submitted Merchant ID, processed attributes, and final product URL.
A connected app can remain authorized while individual products are excluded, pending, or rejected. Review product status in both systems without assuming their labels are identical.
Price and inventory synchronization
Price, compare-at price, inventory policy, market currency, and publication state can change the value exported to Google. Check whether the app sync happened after the catalog change and whether the landing page shows the same market and variant.
- Sale timing differs from source refresh timing.
- A market-specific price or currency is selected on the page.
- Inventory is tracked at a location not used by the sales channel.
- A variant is unpublished from the relevant channel.
- The default landing-page variant differs from the submitted offer.
Theme markup and product pages
Shopify themes and apps may generate Product/Offer structured data. Inspect the rendered markup for the exact variant, especially after theme or pricing-app changes. Verify the canonical domain, redirects, visible price, availability, and checkout remain consistent.
Variants need variant-level evidence
Confirm unique offer IDs, variant-specific GTINs, images, price, stock, and a shared item_group_id only for true variants. Parent product values should not silently replace child data. Keep IDs stable while correcting mappings.
When manual checking is insufficient
Shopify catalogs can change through inventory updates, promotions, market rules, and app syncs between manual reviews. Ongoing monitoring can identify a new or expanded Merchant issue and later confirm when Google reports recovery rather than leaving the first diagnosis as an isolated snapshot.
Monitor Shopify Merchant issues with CommerceVigil
CommerceVigil connects to Merchant Center—not directly to Shopify—and monitors Google's processed products, issues, lifecycle changes, and supported evidence. It does not modify Shopify products, app settings, themes, inventory, or domains. Shopify and Google's official integration guidance remain the source for connection behavior.
Frequently asked questions

Why is Shopify correct but Merchant Center stale?

Can a theme cause Merchant issues?
Theme markup or page behavior can disagree with submitted data, but diagnose the exact evidence before assigning cause.
